Artist stament

My name is Chloe-Anne baxter (I prefer Smith). I am a twenty-two-year-old Middlesborough-based, expressionist artist, who is exploring the relationship between art and therapy and putting an expressionism spin on it. I look at concepts like art therapy, Body dysmorphia, mental health and also my own personal issues like me being disabled and having multiple sclerosis. I create work on controversial topics but also creates work out of trauma and I believe that art is very therapeutic and is a powerful healing tool. I want my work to show that to people and i also want to share what art can do for people, when it comes to mental health and healing. I have a passion for art therapy and what it can do for people, and I wants to go into that in the future and I also wants my work to help people in whatever way it can. I’m very interested in art therapy and the use of it for the trauma and other issues such as mental health and physical. Within my artwork I have been exploring the use of art therapy and how therapeutic it can be and have put that to use with recant work. however I also want my artwork to show that it’s okay to talk about trauma and that trauma is a spectrum, trauma is whatever affects the individual mentally or physically. I want my artwork to show that it’s okay to talk about trauma and it’s okay to let all that trauma out, learn how to self-embrace and love yourself also to have self-acceptance despite all of whatever troubles you have. I’m a big believer in connecting on an emotional level with my audience, using my gestural and expressive figurative paintings. I want to show peaople that art can heal and it is a healthly and productive out let for peaple.
